Photography Composition & Color

Some PHOTOS do more than catch your eye. They stop TIME.

It’s like you can jump inside the frame and feel it. Emotions pop, kids’ personalities jump out, and on top of that, they’re so aesthetically pleasing (even if you can’t quite put your finger on why).

They’re the kinds of photos YOU can create.

You might have started shooting in manual and playing around in Lightroom because you wanted better photos of your kids (like I did).

Or you might have a passion for art and an interest in pursuing photography as a career.

The deeper you dive into photography, the more you realize how much there is to learn. It can be equal parts inspiring and intimidating (I’m a professional photographer and I still get overwhelmed sometimes.) But creating better photos doesn’t have to be daunting. It boils down to some simple next steps.

Whether you’re...

1.

Honing your unique photography style (we’re all one of a kind)

2.

Trying to take better pictures of your kids
and your friends’ kids

3.

Thinking of starting a photography business (but not sure if you should)

4.

Hoping to improve your shooting and
post processing efficiency.

You’re in the right place.

AKA the reason some photos invite you to pause and get lost in a moment in time.

Learn the THEORY
behind composition & color…

So it starts to feel effortless. Like your camera is an extension of your body and your creative vision

Then put it into
PRACTICE

“This course is, in my opinion, a guide that not a single photographer should pass up.

It delves well beyond the basics and fundamentals. Rebecca’s easy manner, concise choices and fun-filled nature make this not only excellent in terms of learning, but also joy-filled and attainable.

Who doesn’t want a magic button to elevate their shooting?! Who doesn’t want to create magic while going on a photo walk with their kids, family, spouse and make it fun, enjoyable and come away with amazing shots? You want it..? Rebecca has got it!”

“This course is like getting a seat inside Rebecca’s brain.

She explains concepts so well, and they’re accompanied by beautiful photos that perfectly explain what she’s teaching. The videos are PHENOMENAL!!! Not only do you get to watch her shoot and see what she’s drawn to, but you get to hear WHY. Where I would normally see a bland parking garage or abandoned building with what I’d assume is distracting writing on the walls, Rebecca sees lines, framing opportunities, balancing elements, complementary colors, and a brilliant photo in the making.

She breaks everything down and gives such easy to implement tips that have me dying to get outside (even in the freezing cold) to practice everything that I’ve learned. I feel like my eyes have been opened to a whole new world.” -Jamie

Composition and color is a self-paced, digital photography course that includes…

→ A 130-page (super readable) PDF, chock-full of information ranging from line use, shapes, and symmetry, to clothing choices and post processing best practices

→ Videos that break down how to incorporate composition and color theory in your shooting and editing

→ Shooting and editing exercises, so you can take the skills you’re learning and practice them in real life, until they become instincts

→ Bonus materials, like a black & white photo editing video and interviews with some of my favorite photographers on how they use color

“Rebecca is such a warm, friendly, relatable voice throughout the course. You feel as if you’re being led by a FRIEND.

She shares tips and tricks on all aspects of making your photos and then delves deeper into concepts like color theory and how she elicits such strong, bold images from her subjects.

I knew it would be good because her IG feed is so full of beautiful eye catching compositions and colors, but the videos are a wonderful way of really understanding how she does this – the behind the scenes was fun to watch, and the editing videos are invaluable because she shows how just a few small tweaks can enhance your images so significantly.” -Kirsty

MENTORSHIPS

More of a one-on-one learner?

Or a professional photographer ready to take your business and your craft to the next level?

I offer a small number of one-on-one mentorships each year.

I’ve been through the process of growing a photography practice into a business… into a profitable business (one that still leaves me enough time to hang out with my kids).

If you feel a little stuck figuring out which steps to take next in your journey as a photographer, you shouldn’t have to go it alone. I’m here to help.

How 1:1 MENTORSHIPS work…

  • Reach out to set up a 20-minute discovery call (it’s free, btw.)

We’ll talk about what you’re hoping to do with photography, what your current editing and shooting practices are, what you want to do less of, and what you’ve already tried to achieve your goals.

  • With your input, I’ll build out a plan personalized to help you reach your goals.

The plan might involve a portfolio review, a live editing session together, a shooting lesson, a goal-clarifying session, or some combination of the above. You’ll have a customized plan to help reach your goals.

  • The FUN part!
We implement the plan together and watch as your photos get better and your business goals start to feel achievable.
Instead of wondering if you’re taking the right next steps, you’ll move forward in your photography business with clarity and confidence.

Kids Classes

Your kids are creative, smart, and curious - they can be ANYTHING they want to be

And at Photo Camp, they become PHOTOGRAPHERS.

Over the course of one week, your 9-13 -year-old can get their hands busy, learn valuable STEAM skills (and care handling DSLRs), and feel empowered to trust their creativity.

Kids photo camp happens twice every summer. It’s also available for your school to book as an after-school program.
