Are you looking for a family photographer who will come to your Portland area home?

Did you know that you don’t have to have your family photos at a local park or landmark? You can also create beautiful photos right at your home.

I’d love to tell you all about family photography at your Portland Area home as it’s one of my favorite locations to photograph families.

What to know about having your family photos in your home:

Family photos at home are laid back

If your family loves to hang out together at home, and is really comfortable there, then doing your family session at your home is a great idea. At home family sessions are super laid back and casual. I’ll take a look at your home to find the best light at the time of your session, and then you and your kids can do a preplanned activity, hang out on the couch, and show me around.

Kids Love To Give Tours

I find that young kids really enjoy showing me around their home, particularly their bedrooms. We can photograph some of their favorite things, books, stuffed animals, and even art projects. Kids are so proud to give these tours and their personalities shine. I love to see what they love about their home too…it’s always fun. Here are more ways to get your kids excited about your family photo session.

If you have shy kids, an at home session can help them feel safe and secure

I highly recommend at home sessions for families with shy kids, or those who may be overwhelmed or overstimulated by doing an on location session. By already feeling safe at home they will more quickly open up during their photos. You can also read more about why in home family photography is important.

Do you have older pets you want to photograph? Or cats/hamsters/ etc. who you can’t take to a photo session?

We can definitely include any and all pets during an at home photo session, and this is definitely a reason to do your photos at home. As our pets age, it’s really important to document their role in our family to ensure we have those precious memories for when they are no longer with us. And…cats (most of them anyways) don’t travel well to the park, but are often quite happy to be involved in family photos at home or in your yard. Check out this post if you are curious about how to prepare your dog for your photo session.

Family photos at your home should be low stress

I understand the instinct to do a crazy deep clean prior to photos…and I’d say don’t over do it… of course photos without clutter will be more visually appealing, but I’d say it’s also OK to document your life and home just how it is. Your love and connection will shine through the photos. I typically shoot in the living room, front porch, kitchen, kids bedrooms, and primary bedroom all dependent on the amount of light in each space, and the stories you’d like to tell about your family right now.
