SCHOOL PICTURE DAY IS COMING UP!

Modern portraits for middle and
high school students: authentic, natural, and stress-free.

What are modern school portraits?
Not your average school photo….

Modern school portraits are different from the traditional stiff, ‘say cheese’ photos you might remember. Instead, these sessions are relaxed and student-centered. With a simple grey backdrop, the focus is on what matters most—your student’s personality.

Whether they’re quick to laugh, prefer a softer smile, or have a more serious side, we’ll capture portraits that feel true to them. Each session takes only a few minutes, so students can get back to class while families get photos they’ll love.

  • Picture day will be done during school hours at your students school. Scroll down to see each school’s picture dates (click on your child’s school for their selected date/s)

  • These photos are taken on a timeless yet modern grey background, and are NOT full length.

  • Each student will have multiple expressions captured—some smiling, some more natural—so families can choose what feels most like them.

There will be both vertical and horizontal oriented images in both color and black and white available for purchase taken on a modern grey backdrop.

  • Not your average sibling photo shoot!

Available on the weekend at photographers home studio. Email rebecca@hunnicuttphotography if interested in booking.

Do you often try to get wall worthy photos of your kids? They’re such treasures, and that makes this the perfect photo session for siblings!

Within a few minutes I’ll interact with your children, asking them fun facts about each other, and encourage their connection to shine, capturing the love, fun relationship, and unique dynamics between your kids. You’ll be able to see their special relationship and enjoy the photos for years to come. The sibling photos also coordinate well with their individual modern school portraits to make a modern and timeless wall gallery for your home and Grandparents too! To see more examples of sibling photos, and how they create amazing wall art, check out this blog post.

  • Solid colors photograph best. Mid-tones, jewel tones, or simple patterns work well. Avoid greys (they’ll blend into the background), logos, or neon brights that can cast onto skin.

Here is a great resource about what to wear for picture day: Modern Portrait Wardrobe Guide. Siblings should coordinate but do not need to perfectly match.

Suggested not to wear: logos, large graphics, or text. Stay away from grey colored clothing as it will blend into the backdrop. Steer clear of solid fluorescent colored shirts as they will create strange color casts on skin.

    • Encourage your student to choose an outfit they feel confident in.

    • A quick hair check before school is helpful.

    • Remind them they don’t need to force a smile—natural expressions are encouraged.

    • Retakes will not be done if a student does not like their outfit or hair, so ensure they are prepared.

About The photographer

Working with kids is my superpower.
Not to toot my own horn…

Before I became a photographer, I was a pediatric nurse practitioner. That meant I had to learn how to work with kids in uncertain and sometimes scary situations. No one likes to be poked and prodded (especially kids). I learned to meet them where they’re at and build an honest rapport with them. Now, I bring that skill into every photo session.

When your kids trust the person behind the camera, it’s so much easier to get genuine laughs and smiles out of them. And when you see that your babies are happy and comfortable during your session, it means you can feel happy and comfortable, too. Learn more about your Pediatric-NP-turned photographer…

The part of parenting no one (okay, everyone) warned you about?
They grow EVERY single day.

Know what I mean?

It’s like…You look at pictures from a year ago and they’ve changed so much - and no one knows this more than a parent of a teen!

You want to be able to remember all the little, funny phases they go through

You trust that the next stage will be good, but if you could push a button and hold onto this one for just a little longer…

Or even better:If you could rewind time and experience those baby snuggles over and over again, you wouldn’t hesitate

(science hasn’t gotten quite that far yet).

Life happens FAST

But with photos, you can hold onto what matters most
