Why I Love At Home Lifestyle Newborn Photography
Photography sessions at my client’s homes are some of my absolute favorite sessions, and that is even more true for newborn sessions.
What Is Lifestyle Photography?
The definition of lifestyle photography is defined on Wikipedia as “a genre of photography that mainly aims to capture portraits of people in situations, real-life events or milestones in an artistic manner and the art of the everyday. The primary goal is to tell stories about people's lives or to inspire people in different times.”
Newborn Lifestyle Photography At Your Home
Newborn Photography at home in the lifestyle genre can really capture the true essence of what you are feeling and experiencing at this unique time. It’s so cliche to hear that the hours are long and the years are short…but it’s something that I can attest to as a parent. Your life one month after your baby arrives is already different than that first week you were home.
You Are Comfortable
I want you and your family to feel super comfortable during your session, and by photographing your newborn photos at home we can optimize on this. You are in your safe space, you have all of your supplies, and we will find little cozy corners and pockets of beautiful light to take your photos.
You Don’t Need To Pack Up And Drive Somewhere
Personally I had two c-sections, and getting everyone packed up and out of the house during the first 14 days after birth was quite challenging…but I know that everyone’s birth story is different. My goal is to help you have as little stress surrounding your newborn session as possible, and by eliminating the need to travel to a studio and have me come to your home, I hope that your prep is a bit easier.
Siblings/Pets Are Calm and Easily Included
At a recent photo session their cat was very interested in what we were doing, and hanging out with the family for photos. I thought it was SO cute, and loved capturing these sweet family moments, that we would not be able to do if we were outdoors, on location, or at a studio. At your home pets can be kept safe easily, but also included. Siblings of all ages can take breaks in their own space, play whatever interests them right now, and also participate in photos without parents needing to worry too much about what they are doing or the safety of their surroundings.
What The Session Feels Like
During your photo session we’ll move around to different spaces, based on light, and seating options. I’ll have each member of the family hold the baby, and we’ll photograph details and connection in these different organic poses. The session itself should feel slow and easy, not rushed.
When the newborn is happy and held, I’ll add in different family members to capture all of the different combinations of family members. And, I’ll also photograph the baby independently.
Your Photos Will Take You Back
If I could bottle up the feelings and endorphins that are in a home with a newborn and somehow sell it, I’d be emotionally rich. Because let me tell you…those feelings at home with your newborn in the early days are so special. When you look back at your photos, and even better if they are in an album to enjoy for years, you will be transported back in time and emotions to that special place. I guarantee it.
I recently delivered the proof of a newborn lifestyle session album to a family, and the mom emailed me that they started crying, just while looking at the proofs. That’s the power and value of this beautiful session.
